Absolute-Clarity

(Clearly Absolute-Clarity)  (Clearly Relative-Clarity)

Relative-Clarity

  • Easy to identify the key individual/ subject matter
  • Clear depiction of individual subject matter
  • Composition, light, color used to define form
  • For example, in figure A, the main subject who is the woman is clearly depicted and it is easy for the viewer to identify the main subject of the painting.
  • Seen as a whole: Focus on the story about entire scene, less emphasis on key subject
  • Unclear (blurred) depiction of individual subject matter
  • Composition, light, color don't define form
  • For example, in Figure B, it is difficult to determine the main subject of the painting. The whole focus on the painting is about the entire scene, where the figures are having a meal together. The figures are blurred together and not clearly defined.
